Forgiveness is one of the greatest expressions of God’s love for us. The Bible reminds us in Romans 3:23 that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Each one of us has sinned against a holy and righteous God, yet in His mercy, He sent Jesus Christ to redeem us. John 3:16 beautifully declares, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” This is the ultimate act of forgiveness, and it is through this gift that we are called to extend the same grace to others.

However, forgiveness is not always easy. Some wounds run deep, and the pain caused by others can feel unbearable. But Jesus Himself calls us to forgive, saying in Matthew 6:14-15, “For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” This is not about dismissing the hurt but about surrendering it to God and trusting Him to heal and bring justice.
When forgiveness feels impossible, we must turn to prayer. Ask God for the strength to forgive and rely on the Holy Spirit to help you release the pain. Ephesians 4:31-32 encourages us to “get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Forgiveness is not a sign of weakness but a reflection of God’s grace working in us.
Additionally, we need wisdom to avoid offenses whenever possible. Proverbs 19:11 teaches, “A person’s wisdom yields patience; it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense.” While we cannot control how others act, we can choose how we respond. Seeking peace and reconciliation, while setting healthy boundaries, honours God and protects our hearts.
Let us be ready to forgive those who hurt us, remembering how much God has forgiven us. Forgiveness sets us free and allows God’s healing to flow into our lives.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for forgiving us through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Help us to extend that same forgiveness to others, even when it feels difficult. Holy Spirit, heal our hearts, give us strength to let go of the pain, and grant us wisdom to avoid unnecessary offense. May we live as reflections of Your grace and love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
