Why should we be concerned about the words that we speak (or are spoken over us)?
Words carry power. As believers, we are called to speak life, hope, and truth—not negativity, fear, or defeat. The Bible teaches that “Death and life are in the power of the tongue” (Proverbs 18:21). This means our words are not empty expressions; they are spiritual tools that shape our reality. Many people unknowingly align their speech with the lies of the enemy, the father of lies (John 8:44), by constantly saying things like “I can’t,” “I’m not enough,” or “Things will never change.” But God never called us to speak from discouragement; He called us to speak from His Word.
From the very beginning, God demonstrated the creative power of speech. “Then God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.” (Genesis 1:3). Creation responded to His voice. As His children, made in His image, we also carry the power to speak and influence the world around us. Jesus said, “If you say to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and do not doubt in your heart…it will be done” (Mark 11:23-24). Our declarations must be rooted in faith, not feelings.

James reminds us that the tongue, though small, has the power to set the course of our lives (James 3:5-10). If our words can build or destroy, then we must intentionally choose words that align with God’s promises. This means spending time in Scripture, learning what God says about our identity, our future, our healing, and our victory and then speaking those truths consistently. When we declare God’s Word, we are resisting the lies of the enemy and enforcing heaven’s reality in our lives.
So today, stop repeating the enemy’s narrative. Begin to speak what God has already spoken concerning you:
I am more than a conqueror (Romans 8:37)
I am fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14)
God is working all things for my good (Romans 8:28)
Your mouth is not just for communication; it is a weapon of spiritual warfare.
From next week, DECLARATIONS BY SARAH will become DECLARATIONS and will feature a variety of narrators leading powerful declarations on many topics. Be sure to join us on The Kingdom TV to speak God’s WORD over your life.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for the power You have placed in my tongue. I choose to align my words with Your Word. Please help me to speak life, faith, and truth over myself and others. Silence every lie of the enemy in my mind and fill my heart with Your promises. As I declare Your Word daily, let mountains move, doors open, and Your will be established in my life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
