Giving Power to Whom Power Does Not Belong!

I am intrigued by Christians who spend more time binding and casting away the devil rather than praising and worshipping God for His greatness! Don’t get me wrong, there is a time to pray for deliverance and resist the devil but when majority of your prayer life is spent on binding and casting the evil one, it leads me to wonder if this is not a form of idolatry! Nothing—not even the devil—should take more of your time than God!

As Christians, God has given us the “authority to tread upon snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; and nothing shall by any means harm you”. Jesus spoke these words in Luke 10:19.

When Jesus was tempted by the devil after 40 days of fasting, he promptly rebuked the devil using Scriptures in Matthew 4:1-11, Jesus said: "It is written…”, “Away from me Satan! For it is written”. In each instance, Jesus was succinct, and He quoted the Scripture until the devil left Him and angels came to minister to Him.

We are created for God’s pleasure. He is pleased when we worship, sing praises, and make melodies in our heart unto the Lord. We are not created to constantly live a life of prayer dedicated to casting demons and binding principalities.

As humans, we are wired to give more attention to what matters to us the most. If God matters to you, you’ll spend more time in praise and worship of His name, regardless of what happens around you. In fact, when you are faced with difficult circumstances, just like Christ, your prayers will be short, and precise like Jesus answered the devil. Christ didn’t spend hours rebuking and resisting the devil but He simply quoted the Word. Why? Because “The Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit…” (Hebrews 4:12). The Bible is literally filled with Scriptures that remind us of the power in the Word.

While there are times we must resist the devil and he will flee, Christ did not call us to a Christian lifestyle of constantly binding and casting but a continuous Christian lifestyle of praise and worship, speaking/praying with faith and believing that He has answered.

Dedicating our praying lives to binding and casting the devil continuously is a way of inadvertently saying that the devil/evil one is so powerful that we need to spend a lot of our energy on this matter. This is far from the truth! Before you opened our mouth to pray about a situation, God already knew about it even before you were ever born!

Moving forward, I encourage you to raise your voice in praise and worship of God more than you raise your voice in binding and casting the evil one. God can do mighty works through your praise and worship of Him.

Don’t give the glory of your trials to the devil; instead, even in difficult situations, give all the glory to God for He alone will bring you out of that situation. And remember, “All things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28).

For All Power Belongs to God!
